The Importance of Acceptance in the Classroom
Sally Kohn: You have to look behind what the behavioral expression is to what function is observing for the individual is. So after communication, we could include stimming where we're putting in positive sensory experiences so that it just has a regulating effect. If I'm starting to feel distressed, and I put inpositive sensory experiences, it brings my arousal level down and makes it feel better. That could be rocking when we're distressed or flapping hands or jumping when we're excited. It's all things that are just regulating the mood there.
