The Limits of Linguistics

Linguistics is still a very young science and there's still a lot of stuff that we simply don't know. Until the technology exists where you can actually stick an electrode into someone's brain and say, Oh, look, there's a phoneme. And especially people who want to use a theoretical framework needs to need to know that the knowledge we have is limited.
