The Biblical Critique of the Emancipation Narrative
The idea that we are emancipated and liberated comes into our tradition through the Exodus. The Bible doesn't oppose this, but what it does is it sets it within a bigger story. So if the only tool you have in your toolbox is emancipation and liberation, you're going to become the person with an emancipation narrative for whom everything is an oppression. And so I think what Christianity has offer is it puts emancipation in a broader context of a story that makes sense of it in a deeper way than you're able to do if you've simply got Leo Tacos and emancipation narrative.
