The advent of the apollonian, related to the ascetic ideal, happens early on in greek society. The apollonian is something like painting and sculpture and still and peaceful,. And the dionysian is something like music and the stuff you would do at a party where you're drinking and letting go. So one is conservative, more peaceful, let's say, aescetic value. In the other is more akin to this idea of action.
