In decade, china has increasingly viewed global leadership on climate as a central aspect by which to increase its economic and political influence abroad. After the united states left a leadership void and climate diplomacy by withdrawing from the paris agreement, china became more vocal in its support for international climate co operation. In the past year, china announced its dual carbon goals of reaching peak emissions by 20 30 and achieving carbon neutrality by 20 60. Even with ambitious domestic energy policies, china will need to overcome substantial hurdles to achieve its goals under the paris Agreement.
