The Proximity of TikTok to an Authoritarian State
The idea of sowing unrest, using social media to reach out and intimidate citizens is not unique to China. But I think the thing that does distinguish TikTok is its proximity to an authoritarian state. So we've seen Russia for many years use Twitter and Facebook to varying degrees of success,. We've seen China, Iran, stalk or abuse or intimidate their citizens living overseas, including in Australia.
