The Importance of Gibson in Cyberpunk
Gibson is usually identified as the beginning of cyberpunk with neuromancer in the 1980s. Gibson, though, as a writer, has never really grabbed me as powerfully as Stevenson or Bruce Sterling. I read through neuromancer at least twice with the intent to see if it grabs me better than the first time since people think it's such a great novel. And it doesn't do that. It doesn't do as much for me as Snow Crash or Sterling's Schismatrix and Rudy Rucker.
