Althusta is looking at bottom up ideological apparatus, things like churches and schools which help to produce a stable society by reinforcing the status quo upon the individual. Althuse would say the same goes for an ideology, which is that it not only replicates itself, but it replicates the kind of subjects who will live in those societies. I know it sounds a little bit circular, but hopefully it will become clearer as i tinue. So i've gon to leave it there and completely switch tracks and read to you from one of my favorite poems by thomas hardy. We read the whole thing.
