Cattle herders who were migrating in from the United States into Texas had to take on the practices, the tools, the accoutrements and to a great degree the language of these vacaros. They wore elaborate scarves and sashes, especially to wrap around their necks and faces to protect against blowing dust. And they carried rawhide ropes called lasreitas and los lazos,.
