The Importance of Imitating

I think what's really interesting about some of the examples that you've brought up is that they are pre-internet, pre-social media. Anyone who's creative is doing something that's very ancient. The imitation thing is this thing's already here. Maybe I'll do this too, right? That's imitation. And so once you could get past, look, in the early days you have to imitate, but once you can get to that spot where you're like, there's something missing here, maybe I can do the thing that's missing...that's when you find your work.
