The BBC European Service
The BBC European service was born in a rush of improvisation on the 27th of September 1938. The bone of the Sudetenland did not appease Hitler's hunger for territory. In March 1939 Nazi Germany occupied all Czechoslovakia and six months later invaded Poland. World War transformed the BBC, announcing no longer wore dinner jackets and black tie at the microphone. Many more women became producers, presenters, engineers. There were new faces and new voices.
