Is There a Marriage Between Merit and Money?

I would not argue to move away from a system of democracy towards a system of political meritocracy. I think that it's very important to have democracy. It gives power to people who see the world in a different way and more linked to common sense. However, what's happened over the last 40 years is that we've moved into a sort of marriage between plutocracy and meritocracy. The rich have discovered the importance of education and the meritocrats have discovered money and the joys of money. So you have a sort of corrupt version of meritocracy incarnating power.
