Farnabassus had grown afraid that the Greek mercenary army, in search of their provisions and booty, might attack his province. He sent word to Anaxibius, the Spartan naval commander who happened to be at Byzantion, and asked him to ferry them out of Asia Minor. In return, he promised to do anything that Anaxibious might ask.
