Rainmaker Charles Hatfield (San Diego Flood!)
Jimmy Akin's Mysterious World

Hatfield, the Cloud Cochsir
Cloud cochsir Hatfield found himself in controversy with George E. Franklin, the official weather forecaster in Los Angeles. He said he would produce 18 inches of rain between mid-December 1904 and late April 1905 for $1,000. Showers did fall in Altadena, about one-third inch, which weather guesser Franklin thought either natural or a special dispensation of provenance. When he becomes sober, he will bring his chemicals to the city and ask for Mr. Franklin's place.
