Tribe was a egaletarian society. There were leaders, but theye were leaders who were followed voluntarily. If you didn't like the leadership style of chief pontiac, well, you could just move up muskegan creek and move in with your wife's cousin's family. Authority was accepted. And that led to a really basic equality in native societies.
