Julius Vellhausen and Walter Eichrot argued for a particular theological innovation in ancient Israel. The idea is that there's a unique situation in Israel and Judah, that they have a shared God between them. That means that the experience of defeat and loss and interruption that occurred has an outsized impact on their religion.
