When camp is brought into the picture, it gives queer people something to identify with and latch onto when it's heard in songs. Some of my favorite sort of campy artists are artists who probably don't even think of themselves as campy but they're people who I read as like oh there is some sort of wink and nudge here. There is like a camp sensibility that I am either identifying with or like dis-identifying with. It's just like another lure for me, right?
