The tax ended up closing a number of grocery stores, particularly in low income areas in the Philadelphia region. People responded to this busy bullying by going out buying their sugar drinks elsewhere and what you had instead was grocery stores closing. The war on poverty has cost us to date $23 trillion. Current estimates are eight, twice the cost of World War II adjusted for inflation.
