The push for reducing the use of life sentences seems to be gaining ground. But that's still going to leave a lot of people who think justice hasn't been served. The fundamental problem with life sentences is that, in almost all cases, you're punishing somebody long after they pose any threat to society. There are far better ways that you could spend that money.
