The Origins of Destructive Envy

destructive envy becomes explicitly destructive what I can't have I will destroy envy is transformed into aggression and attempt is made to destroy the other's happiness with no hope of attaining it for oneself this may be by inflicting physical or verbal violence such as insults or hate speech. The person may very well be unconscious that envy is at the source of this aggression they may instead only be conscious of the persistent antipathy, resentment, or shadenfreude they feel toward the other person. These forms of envy can be observed from early childhood onwards one need only think of situations in kindergarten a child is playing with a beautiful fire engine and it appears to be bringing him real joy another child comes along and snatches
