Introduction

The Chantels were a New York-based girl group who formed in 1961. Originally called the Chrystals, they changed their name after finding that another group had already done so. They decided to call themselves St Francis de Chantel because it was from the same root as the French word for singing. Their favourite record of theirs was In Paradise by the Cookies - whose records were produced by Jesse Stone.
