Guardiola played as a defensive midfielder in his career and he always said that he liked to be a single pivot. A lot of teams during the last 20 years have moved toward a double pivot, right? And so when Guardiola came in to Bayern and he moved from the 4231 to using Lom at the base of midfield, that was a pretty major shift in terms of how they built up. But even though Guardiola is kind of theoretically in love with the idea of a single pivot, he's never practically played with one consistently.
