The Biochemical Barrier to Leaky Gut

There are proteins in the intestinal epithelial cells called tight junctions. Tight junctions bind cells to each other and don't let stuff get through the pores. Fructose nitrates tight junction proteins, so you increase your gut permeability with sugar. And then finally, the third part of the barrier is the immunologic barrier. There's an entire immune system running around your intestine trying to keep things out.
