Ad Hominum Arguments

The next logical fallacy is the straw man argument. This is a very common mistake where you argue a different topic than the one being discussed. The straw man argument replaces the real issue with one that makes someone seem correct, but doesn't address the real topic. Here are some examples of ad hominum: my dad says, it's important to protect democracy around the world; his friend then attacks him for having voted for donald trump. Sarah smokes cigarettes so i shouldn't listen to her point of view on health issues because I'm unhealthy. Just because sarah smokes cigarettes doesn't necessarily mean she isn't a good authority on this issue.
