The Retrenchment of Gender Roles in the Post-War Era
The gender order that we think of as being like very, very solid in 1950s white suburban middle-class families was actually the product of a decades-long ideological project. And there was really an imposition of like a gender super ego on women who were sort of made subject to this version of revisionist Freudianism. This retrenchment of gender roles in the post-war era with the therapeutic as sort of a handmaiden to it.
