preference falsification is the act of misrepresenting our wants under perceived social pressures. It aims deliberately at disguising one's motivations and one's dispositions. Sometimes it occurs in very innocent situations, such as when someone asks you to pick out a house decore for their home. In other cases like immigration or abortion there can be terrible consequences if people are not honest about what they really want. The main fault line in american society to day is political ideology.
