CHAPTER

The Queen's Pursuit of Beauty

Queen Elizabeth had smallpox, which left her with scars and pockmarks all over her face. She used something called the nation's ruse as her foundation, made with white lead and vinegar. Her cleanser was made of rose water, honey, eggshells and mercury. As Queen Elizabeth got older, her health started getting worse and worse. Eventually, Queen Elizabeth died on March 24th of 1603. The exact cause of death is actually unknown, but many historians point to her deadly makeup regimen as a killer.
