The Helmholtz resonator is a spherical chamber with an aperture at the top or at one end called the nipple and tapering there for insertion into the ear. It's essentially, it's kind of like a very finely engineered seashell. If you're studying anything about sound and sound generation, you'll generally find something about von Helmholtz.
