Joel is doing his best to avoid ever living again. We really like the idea that Ellie wants a gun and Joel keeps telling her, no, you can't have a gun. And yet at the end, when she's on her own, she finds not just any gun but Frank's. It was Frank's. She stabs that and affected that's in the wall. At the end of this episode, not only is she now starting to pull out the joke book and beginning to talk, but now she's got a gun.
