Homer's representation of the gods drew objections from many Greeks in later times. Plato was or affected to be scandalized by how bad those gods behaved. I think the key thing standing in the way of thinking about Homeric gods is that in the Judeo-Christian tradition we expect the gods to be good and the Greek gods are bent as Lunginus says.
