Is Social Media a Threat to Stand Up Comedy?

Comedians who started five or 10 years before me see social media as something alien. I think their careers came through at a time when it was entirely unnecessary and they've managed to survive without it. Those coming through after me have their first gigs put online. And that's a world I couldn't bear to live in. But this idea that your social media presence outweighs your ability in the room, I think is something a lot of comic struggle with because you can go and do well at a gig and nobody knows about it.
