Bobby Kennedy's Story of Saving Martin Luther King
On October 19th, 1960, Martin Luther King stages a sit-in at Richard's department store in Atlanta. Everyone but King is released on bail; his supporters are fearing for his life because this is Georgia. Some Kennedy advisors recommended that Jack call Coretta Scott King and comfort her during the tense moment. Bobby was also planning something incredibly audacious: He got the governor of Georgia on the line who in turn gets him in touch with the judge,. J. Oscar Mitchell, who had sentenced King to the jail time. They had four conversations on the phone before he eventually relented and let's King out on bail.
