The Differential of Blasts on Peripheral Smears

Blasts or immature white blood cells are never normal on a peripheral smear. Flow cytometry can help to tease out whether it's the myeloid or the lymphoid lineage. If we're seeing lymphoid blasts, we should be worried about acute lymphoblastic leukemia. You can think of a whole spectrum of myeloid malignancies.
