There's a panoply of diseases that BCG could be highly protective against. It requires significantly more research and with a seven cent vaccine, it would really almost inevitably have to come from philanthropic sources. But I think there's a sense that novel vaccines are novel and interesting and repurposed vaccines are less interesting on the part of science funders.
