Chesterton's Politics Are Like Thomas's
The seaminess of politics can pose a special problem for Christians, like Chesterton. The high demands of Christianity could seem to be incompatible with the compromises that it seems political life always involved. After all, if one's treasures are in heaven, it might make sense to take little thought for the politics of this world. One might prefer to preserve one's purity perfectly rather than getting involved in that messy business.
