Public sector unions are making pretty chunky demands, says Philip Hammond. But for a lot of their members, ving that kind of pay rise would only take them back to where they were in two thousand and ten. A lot of public sector workers whose pay is still, in real terms, quite some way below where it was 12 years ago. Some of the more activist union organizers have beenquite surprised at the strength of feeling among members who aren't necessarily as engaged,. The incredibly strong votes they've had in favour of strike action.
