The Drawbacks and Potential Issues With Bacterial Contamination Testing
There are things that we do test for where we still have some potential holes. The bacterial screening has been effective in that it has decreased the frequency of bacterial contaminated units and then transfusion transmitted infection. But it's not perfect. Some of these culture systems don't pick up all the infected units. There is an alternative approach to pathogen reduction for that.
