Orwell's Essay on Democracy and Democracy in the English Language

In 1946, Orwell wrote that the word fascism is more or less a substitute for something we dislike. He says there are certain words that have been obscured whose normal meanings have been obscured in, quote, consciously dishonest ways. And he's saying that fascism has become this meaningless buzzword to serve as a proxy for any kind of authoritarian government. But let's just say, Tom, people were using fascists as a term a bit more precisely than they're using it today.
