I feel like whenever anyone makes a move to do anything I remember even like Bridgerton and Hamilton every single time it's like some fucking telegraph columnist. And suddenly we have this conversation bubble about well I don't know about this mermaids. And then it filters down to a public who are on their phone all day. If it had happened and there was no reporting on it they wouldn't have thought about it at all because ultimately it's children's content. We were reporting on Keena and Kel and we weren't reporting it because that was like grownups were doing grown up things in a different grown up corner.
Novelist Ore Agbaje-Williams joins us for a childhood favourite that almost threatens to fall down behind the couch: the straight-to-video Cinderella, starring Brandy, Whitney Houston and Whoopi Goldberg. We talk about the baffling charm of this adaptation, the star-power of the cast, the new Little Mermaid, the endless drudgery of the 'representation' conversation, childhood desires and much more.
