The Effect of Elections on Violence

When institutions of political transition are weak, such as elections, disgruntled people may express their voice through violence. The book also argues that once institutions become stronger violence dissipates. So what can we learn from Indonesia? We see that initially elections didn't seem to be favorable for the purposes of those people who have felt like they have been neglected and excluded from politics. But then over time, and actually relatively quickly, elections became much more adapt and much more competitive.
