Aircraft Carriers Are a Huge Cost to the US
An aircraft carrier is mobile and can travel at 35 miles an hour as opposed to an airbase on Guam, which is considerably less mobile. The US have been working on their anti submarine operations in the hope to always keep their carriers safe in the event of a war. So why bother with aircraft carriers if the Chinese have all these sorts of weapons available? All of these weapons are sexy and interesting, but they're only useful when they can be directed against a particular target, right? "It's a win for the United States when Chinese missiles fall harmlessly into the ocean"
