When we speak of the dark ages, we're talking about what happened after the fall of the roman empire. This is a city with running water and flush toilets for the rich, but they existed. And there are monks in this monastery who are copying by hand old manuscripts. But everything else, you know, you have to get up early andt hurt those goats or plough the fields.
