The Western Linear Understanding of Time
i view the traditional western portrait style as something that emerges from a sense of anxiety. It's an attempt to try and stop and capture linear time. But only very wealthy people, like popes, kings, queens, merchants, could afford to have their portrait painted throughout te tenth, sixteenth, seventeenth century. The artist i'm speaking about here are the likes of george bracken or george sizan - even though he wasn't a cubist.
