Is Development Aid a Waste?
A year ago I had Bill Easterly on this podcast and he said that it is very hard for giving institutions and nations to know what forms of aid are actually going to be helpful and effective. He pointed out the adverse incentives that are created through it where a lot of the smartest people locally go and work for international NGOs or private companies. In some cases you can find incredibly inefficient ways in which aid is being used, says David Frum.
