Modernity is a state of affairs, which begins to appear in Northwest Europe in roughly the second half of the 18th century. It has gradually spread out or appeared rather in other parts of the world,. Now what does it mean to say that? Well, to say that a part of the world is modern is to say that it has certain things. The most important and central one is sustained intensive growth. And so that's the first really big feature of modernity.
