This is an era where you begin to get appeals to religious freedom and religious liberty that are about protecting particularly like white evangelicals and white Catholics from any sort of constraint on their feelings. So Giuliani ends up giving a religious liberty speech very much on those lines at the Ronald Reagan Museum. While he's basically doing a press cycle promoting his Brooklyn Museum fight, when he's back in New York, reporters ask him so you care deeply about these things? Do you attend mass regularly, and where do you go? And he's basically flummoxed, right?
