Pine trees are notorious for growing on really crappy soil. Eucalyptus are even worse. They'll grow and they seemingly grow with nothing. I found a species, well I didn't personally collect it but I was struck by a palm guy. What the heck he was doing in this place, I don't know if this is a desert. But anyway there was a new species that was brought back by this guy and it was in California for 50 or 20 years before it was brought to my attention. And at that time I realized it was anew species. So it was in cultivation for 20 years before. It might have been a species that had been around for 100 years
