"I kind of literally thought somebody was looking at me and they probably, with that movement, were getting ready to do something," he says. He gathered up his stuff, walked out of the park and along the canyon road till his phone had a signal. For weeks afterward, he tried to rationalize the experience. "Just none of the scenarios I kept painting made any sense."
