The Talgar Valley and Its Wild Fruit Forests
Kazakhstan's wild fruit forests are home to apricots, black currants and raspberries. In 1936 Soviet scientist Nikolay Vavilov led the first botanical expedition into the forest. He thought domestic apples were descended exclusively from Malus Sversus - a wild apple of the Tian Shan mountains. But he was unable to prove his hypothesis as Barry Juniper did some sixty years later.
