CHAPTER

The National Security Advisor

The National Security Advisor role itself is one that I think is widely misunderstood and in part because frankly, Hollywood does get it so wrong. It seems like every show and every movie to the point that they have a national security advisor has someone that is either a ruthless, unethical hatchet man for a presidential agenda or an incompetent buffoon. The first one may have some accurate elements, which is sometimes you do have to, in a sense, bang heads together to get a policy process completed. Overall, those three characterizations don't match my experiences with multiple national security advisors almost universally.
